Casual Amelia W, easily the best character in this novel. I have no idea why Bjorn was surprised by her rebuttal, she clearly values human life and avoids taking it without reason. Also, easily the worst look Bjorn has ever had, his companions kind of get a pass since its at least in character for the ones who were in favor. He was acting fully as a plunderer in this situation. A clan, far weaker than him, acting in self defense after one of their companions was killed is very obviously not guilty. The whole ‘if they surrendered peacefully’ reasoning is infuriating nonsense; wish it was specifically called out by Amelia, would’ve been more impactful. How many times have we as readers been frustrated because Bjorn precisely does not spare plunderers or assailants who surrender peacefully when they were of no real threat. This clan actively lost a comrade, has far less political power, and is expected to just spare plunderers?Hopefully this is the start of a turning point, I really am not a fan of senseless slaughter for shock factor. He has risen high enough in the world; its a good time to address how it has broken him so he can start rising above himself.
