  2. This could lead to one of the questions i always have for this world , why isnโ€™t there any industry ? bjorn could easily create countless new ways to make money from them with earth technology but dumb it down and i donโ€™t think the answer only evil people could think about that so he and all the others are scared to get killed . humans always try new things , its normal so it has to be another reason to not do it . canโ€™t wait to see it

    2. Partly what Ashlen said, and also, unless youโ€™re really well off, life in Raphdonia is largely about survival – envisioning advancement is only for those who can afford to. Iโ€™d imagine the mages would, but they are often focused on their respective school's studies. Anything of real value will likely be forbidden or for those of higher standing

  3. kind of sucks that they cant become explorers. So our boy Bjorn cant make an army against them. That was probably one of the main reasons the royal family forbade it. That being said. 8000+ people who have to pay taxes and (at the moment) dont get a wage. How xD?

    1. Thatโ€™s precisely it. By forbidden them from exploring, limiting their options for income, and requiring their taxes, it puts pressure on Bjorn to reduce their numbers and also cripples his ability to use them against the royal fam – thats the intent. However our boy is a crafty one, if he wanted to use them against the royal family, iโ€™m sure heโ€™d find a wayโ€ฆ

  4. honestly i dont think its going to be that hard taking care of all these people especially when bjorn sells some of the information about the basement floor to the faction that he is apart of like yea hes missing out on the royal family awards but besides that its still going to be a big boom

  5. So he's got a huge labor force that works for โ€œfreeโ€ minus taxes. All this while 2 entire districts are in need of dire repairsโ€ฆ So he can pretty much corner the market by undercutting all other laborers? All he needs to do is force contracts of 2 years minimum at certain rates and their taxes are pretty much taken care of. Anything else is pure profit.

He's got the entirety of the holy land to develop as well with this labor force so it would actually behoove him to give the labor force wages so they can spend it on his goods as well. Having this many people is actually a great benefit even with the cost of taxes. Educating the children for free guarantees future tradesmen as well. This was the final missing piece he needed to make the holy land a future mecca of trade. As long as he's not stupid about it, this is all great.

With the barbarians taking the military role and the refugees taking literally every other role, he's en route to becoming the most powerful noble in the kingdom.

  6. I love how the chancellor is almost used to disappoints and challenges from Bjorn. He feels like a tired dad at this point haha.

  7. oh that poor poor woman. Bjorn is working her to the bone. That Promotion better come with a hefty raise!

Also, i was right about the taxes being imposed, but its both surprising and not to hear that they cant become explorers. I imagine its to avoid allowing Bjorn to raise a private army, but also makes me question and wonder how Bjorn will manage to raise the funds to support them all. At least some of them should be able to help handle the administrative tasks that the sanctuary will be full of now. Maybe could pair every barbarian with a Bifron resident to act as mediators and helpers? and since each barbarian is an explorer, that could allow for more to survive and also each resident to have an explorer to help with their taxes? idk how feasible such an idea would be though. Overall very curious how bjorn will raise the funds to pay that many peopleโ€™s taxes.

It would be useful to know how many minors are in that 8712, since the minors are exempt, so if we get that count, we can know the actual total number of people that will have taxes paid on.

    1. I had similar thoughts about the new retainers being paired with barbarians to support with daily-life and labyrinth-adjacent duties that arenโ€™t conducive with the barbarian YOLO mentality.

    2. The barbarian can only fight they dont have any manufacturing so in order to become less dependent they need to build a working society in the sanctuary like the other races have

      1. Yeah I agree, aside from the real estate development, this could spark the birth of the barbarian sanctuary economyโ€ฆ Gnome Tree v2.0

    3. Poor her and all her staff tooโ€ฆ theyโ€™ve been working overtime, trapped in the sanctuary for a very long timeโ€ฆ even worse for those with familiesIm sure Bjorn will give her a raise with the new title, but doesnโ€™t change that sheโ€™ll be overworked again. Iโ€™ll say it again, such a Lloyd thing to do ๐Ÿ˜›
